29th annual Andouille Run winners named
LAPLACE - Over 200 runners and walkers participated in the 29th annual Andouille Run recently, in conjunction with the St. John Parish Andouille Festival.
Ascension of Our Lord 4-H contest winners named
Four 4H members of Ascension of Our Lord School recently participated in the 4-H Food focus Contest that was held at the Andouille Festival. Jeffrey Millet placed 2nd in the Ground Beef division in the 1dish meal category with his lasagna dish. John Campbell placed 1st in the Seafood division in the Crab category with his Crab Meat Dip. Trey McCoy won 2 awards as both his Chicken Spaghetti placed 3rd in the Poultry division and his Shrimp and Corn Chowder placed first in the Seafood/Shrimp division. Brittney Champagne Placed 1st in the Seafood division in the Crawfish category with her Crawfish over rice dish.

R. K. Smith Middle School participates in Project ALERT
R. K. Smith Middle School physical education classes participated in a twelve lesson program entitled Project ALERT. It was sponsored by CADA (Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse for Greater New Orleans) with Meagan Stock as the Prevention Educator. Project Alert is a nationally recognized, middle grade, substance abuse program that gives students insight, understanding and actual skills for resisting substance abuse.
Upcoming La Belle Fleur dinner to be held
DESTREHAN ” The regular meeting of the La Belle Fleur garden club was held at the home of Louise Hehmeyer on recently with 12 members in attendance.
St. Hubert Festival cook off winners
A Chef’s Choice Cook Off Contest was held recently in conjunction with St. Hubert’s annual church fair. Several cooks participated in the seafood and meat divisions. Sherry Hymel’s Seafood Gumbo won the Judges’ Overall Award. The other winners were as follows:
