HAHNVILLE – Authorities in St. Charles are still on the lookout for an unidentified white male who allegedly tried to lure a 7-year-old girl into his vehicle.

St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne said that the young girl told detectives that a white male in his late 30s approached her near her home on Oakland Drive in Destrehan and tried to lure her into his vehicle with candy.

The suspect was last seen driving a white truck that, according to Champagne, “is rusted and heavily dented.”

Champagne said his office is communicating with other area Sheriff’s Offices to see if the suspect had been seen in other parishes. He also said his office is in contact with sex offenders in the area to see if the truck is owned by one of them.

Champagne said there have been no reported incidents of this kind, to his knowledge, in recent months. He said there is little information about the incident because of the age of the child who reported what happened.

“We are just asking for the public to be vigilant and keep a lookout for this person or vehicle,” Champagne said.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-6807.
