Sterling Snowdy, the only judge out of three on the court who faced any election opposition this term, handily won re-election on Saturday over Fontella Baker, a newcomer to the election scene.
Snowdy will return to his Division ‘C’ seat on the bench after defeating Baker in Saturday’s election, getting 71.3 percent of the vote, to 28.6 percent for Baker.

Snowdy, who has served for 12 years previously on the district court, will return for another term and join Madeline Jasmine and Mary Hotard Becnel, both of whom had no opposition.
Snowdy almost had no opposition, but Baker showed up at the clerk of courts office with 30 minutes to spare, and got her qualifying registration in with only five minutes before the deadline.
Baker is a local attorney who recently gained some attention for working on the case with Geri Broussard Baloney in the attempt to get the town of Garyville incorporated.
Snowdy has been a resident of LaPlace for 20 years, and was a native of Reserve. He is married and has two children.
