The Lutcher Bulldogs certainly had enough motivation entering Friday night’s home game with East Ascension.
Not only was Lutcher attempting to bounce back from a disappointing loss at Thibodaux a week prior, but East Ascension has long been a thorn in Lutcher’s side – the Spartans handed Lutcher its only regular season loss a year ago in overtime.

Lutcher outgained East Ascension (0-3) 272-149 in total yardage, most of that coming on the ground behind Daniel Taylor and Gavin Webster. Taylor carried 17 times for 111 yards. Webster accumulated 100 yards on nine carries.
The Lutcher defense intercepted East Ascension three times, holding the Spartans to 25 passing yards on the game.
Webster accounted for each of Lutcher’s two first quarter touchdowns. The Bulldogs led 13-0 after a Webster touchdown pass – seven yards to Jarvis Landry – and a 3-yard touchdown run gave Lutcher the early lead.
That score held up until there was 4:15 remaining in the second quarter. Taylor rushed for an 8-yard score to make it 20-0. East Ascension answered when Matt Richard intercepted Webster, returning it for a 36-yard touchdown to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 20-6.
But Lutcher slammed the door in the third quarter. Reginald Jackson went the distance on a punt return, scoring from 75 yards away to make it 27-6. Webster’s 58-yard scoring run with 1:52 left in the quarter made it 34-6.
Rico Albert capped off the scoring, intercepting a pass and taking it into the endzone with 7:26 remaining in the game.
Webster was 11-for-15 for 82 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Reginald Jackson led Lutcher receivers with five catches for 72 yards. Jackson and Taylor each accounted for 147 all-purpose yards.
Avery Williams led East Ascension with 109 yards on 24 carries.
Blake Rome, Marcus Millet, Austin Roussel and Dexter McCoil each led the team with seven solo tackles. Albert, Roussel, and David Washington each had an interception for Lutcher.
