HAHNVILLE – In addition to higher profile elections Saturday, ballots in St. Charles included three races for justice of the peace and one battle for constable.
Two newcomers competed for the District 4 constable position that was vacated by P.J. Rodgers. Democrat Donnie White defeated Republican Walter J. “Wally” Fonseca Jr. to take the District 4 race. With five of five precincts reporting, White garnered 740 votes, which was good 56.53 percent of the vote, while Fonseca collected 569 votes for 43.47 percent of the vote.

The District 5 Justice of the Peace position went to incumbent Republican Julie P. Carmouche, who defeated challenger Richard L. “Dick” Palmer Jr., also a Republican. With five of the five precincts reporting, Carmouche collected 693 votes for 63.11 percent of the vote, while Palmer only managed 405 votes for 36.89 percent of the vote.
District 7 will have a new Justice of the Peace as challenger John D. Brady soundly defeated incumbent Irv Sanchez Jr. With six of the six precincts reporting, Brady picked up 974 votes for 56.56 percent of the vote, while Sanchez picked up 592 votes for 34.38 percent of the vote. Also in the District 7 race was attorney Lantz Savage, who picked up 156 votes for 9.06 percent of the vote.
