HAHNVILLE – For the second time in a week, authorities in the River Parishes have shown that criminal offenders just can’t outrun the law.
Just four days after assisting in the capture of a Reserve man following a high-speed chase, deputies with the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office apprehended a New Orleans man Wednesday night following a brief pursuit down Airline Highway in Destrehan.

Yoes said the incident began when deputies attempted a traffic stop of Sistrunk’s 2008 GMC Sierra along Airline Highway near the I-310 interchange. Yoes said deputies were pulling Sistrunk over in reference to an ongoing investigation. The captain had no further information on Sistrunk’s prior discretions.
A report on the incident states that when Sistrunk refused to comply with officers, his vehicle sped off down Airline Highway heading westbound. His vehicle reached speeds of 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The chase ended about a fourth of a mile from the intersection of Airline and Ormond Boulevard, when officers deployed spike strips to slow Sistrunk’s vehicle. When the vehicle finally came to a stop, Sistrunk jumped from the car and fled on foot, then jumped into a nearby canal. After a brief struggle, deputies removed Sistrunk from the canal and arrested him.
Yoes said Sistrunk was booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer by flight, resisting an officer by violence, obstruction of justice and speeding. Sistrunk remains in jail on a bond of $250,000 set by Judge Kirk Granier of Division D.
“It’s the second time in a week and neither one worked,” said Yoes. “That must say something.”
