If one were to only see that East Ascension outgained visiting St. Charles on Friday night 316 to 116, what would he guess the result to be?
How about a Comets win?

“It’s a huge win,” said St. Charles Coach Frank Monica. “It’s great for our confidence.
“Now, we can get back into our Friday to Friday routine. I think we’re going to start seeing more of what teams really are from this point forward.”
Dylan Klibert intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble for SCC (1-1). Tim Boesen and Justin Vicknair also intercepted passes, and Matt Jacques recovered a fumble.
“Even though we didn’t have a lot of yards, we converted on a short field,” said Monica. “Our defense played with resolve. After the turnovers, we were able to put it in the endzone.”
Stafford Jones rushed 13 times for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Courtland Taylor added 51 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown of his own.
Grant Authemont led the Comets in tackles with nine.
Jones scored his first touchdown in the second quarter on a 1-yard run to make it 7-0. It capped a 13 play, 80-yard drive that spanned 6:30. A second Jones score, a 4-yard run in the third quarter, pulled St. Charles ahead by two touchdowns.
With 7:50 left in the fourth quarter, the Spartans (0-2) were driving to pull within a touchdown and reached the Comet 15-yard line. Vicknair ended that threat when he picked off an Adam Trahan pass and returned it to the East Ascension 34.
Courtland Taylor effectively ended the game with his 14-yard scoring run to the outside, making it 21-0 with little time left for an EA comeback.
“That score was huge,” said Monica. “That allowed us to really put the game away.”
Monica added that he was proud of what he deemed the mental toughness of his players, who suffered a loss in blowout fashion to Higgins the previous Saturday.
“We played harder than the week before. We took care of the ball and solid on special teams,” he said. “I just hope we can rely on our defense while our young offense grows up.”
