LAPLACE – Authorities in Houston have apprehended a LaPlace man who was wanted in connection with a double shooting in St. John Parish earlier this year, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Maj. Mike Tregre, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said Arthur Brown III, 22, 2116 Pinehurst St., was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility last Thursday after being transferred from a jail in Houston. Brown is being held on $1 million bond, and is facing two counts of second-degree murder.

Tregre said U.S. marshals, and deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Brown July 17. He said Brown was last seen in Atlanta before catching a bus to Houston to stay with friends in that area. Upon arrest, Brown waived extradition and was transported back to St. John Parish.

St. John deputies have been on the lookout for Brown since the May 1 shooting, which occurred in the 1800 block of Meeker Loop in LaPlace. According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, prior to the shooting, Brown was involved in an argument with his two victims, an unidentified married couple. As the altercation intensified, Brown pulled out a .45 caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol and opened fire. The bullets struck the male victim in the leg and the female victim in the forehead. The couple survived the attack.

Tregre said the investigation is still open, and anyone with information should contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office at 985-652-6338.

" Author Brown came from a very good family. Society and the Streets have taken over the young kids of this world. In most cases the "parents" are to blame for troubled kids these days, trust me it isn't so. Prayers and discipline were taken away from the school system and even taken away from the parents, allowing kids to call 911 on there parents for child abuse, if spanking or punishments were an option.
What is this world coming too? "

" If the couple survived the attack, why is he charged with two counts of second degree murder? "

" Debra, I'm no lawyer and will not try to play one. But, I wonder about the charge myself if it's correct. I would think it's attempted murder.

Cynthia, I respect everyones opinion but disagree with you entirely. Author probably did come from a good family that probably provided him with all the right tools to become a respectable citizen. Parents are responsible for an individual up to a certain point in life.
Once a person reaches a certain age then it all about the choices we make. He made the choice to carry the 45 caliber pistol on his person for what reason?
He then let Peer Pressure make the decision for him during a heated argument to pull the trigger. To me that the easy way out. We at times are concerned about what our boys will say about us after the fact.

I grew up in Garyville during the 60's and 70's. All the so called tough guys use to redicule me, calling me a sissy or whatever. But, then this isn't about me, it's all about the decisions you make. He should have made the decision leave and deal with it another way. I don't recall the article saying anything about the couple he was arguing with having any threatening weapon themselves. "
