Free checking? How about free gas.

Bill Roger of Wallace got a pleasant surprise from representatives from Iberia Bank in LaPlace, who paid for the first $10 of Roger’s gas purchase Thursday afternoon. Pumping Roger’s gas is Iberia Bank Assistant manager Dale Holley. Also in the picture are Iberia Teller Sydney Martin (right of Holley) and Branch Manager Trudy Torres (right of Roger). Torres said the giveaway was part of Iberia Bank’s “Random acts of Kindness” campaign. She said the bank does the promotion on a regular basis, and it does not always involve gasoline.

“It’s all random,” said Torres. “You never know where we might show up next.”

Torres said the bank has bought lunch for people, and even purchased groceries.

“It’s just a way for us to keep in touch with the community,” said Torres. (Staff photo by Robin Shannon)
