RESERVE – A single vehicle accident along River Road Sunday claimed the life of a 34-year-old Reserve man, said a spokesman for State Police.

Senior Trooper Joseph Piglia said Neil Glidden was transported to River Parishes Hospital after his 1995 Chevrolet Lumina veered off the road and hit a utility pole. Piglia said Glidden succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the hospital.

According to a report from State Police, the accident occurred around 9:01 p.m. Sunday. It said Glidden was traveling westbound on River Road when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle veered off the road to the right and struck a utility pole. Glidden had no passengers at the rime of the accident, and no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Piglia said the incident is still under investigation, and said speed and driver impairment are suspected factors in the accident. He said a toxicology test is pending.

Piglia also said Glidden was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Glidden’s wife Jennifer said Neil had been a resident of the St. John area since 1984, and is a graduate of Riverside Academy.
