HAHNVILLE – A pair of 18-year-olds, who are accused of perpetrating a shooting at a party in Hahnville this past Saturday that injured a 16-year-old boy, have been taken into custody in St. Charles Parish, said a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, public information officer for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, said Tuesday that John B. Lumar, 18, 1832 Paul Maillard Rd., Luling, was arrested at his home in connection with the May 10 shooting in front of a nightclub in the 15000 block of River Road in Hahnville.

Both men have been booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility, and charged with attempted murder. They are being held at the jail on bonds of $100,000.
According to a Sheriff’s Office release, Lumar was in attendance at the party when he and another unknown subject got into a verbal confrontation inside the club. As the unknown subject was leaving the scene, around midnight that evening, Lamar allegedly produced a semi-automatic handgun and began firing several shots into a crowd of people. The report said one of the shots allegedly hit the 16-year-old Des Allemands victim in the head as he was sitting in the back seat of a car parked in front of the club.
“There were a large amount of bullet casings on the ground where the shooting occurred,” said Sheriff Greg Champagne. “It’s amazing that there weren’t more victims as a result of this.”
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to St. Charles Hospital, and later transported to Ochsner Hospital in Kenner for further treatment. He is listed
in stable condition. The incident report said that the bullet did not penetrate the boy’s skull.
LaGrange said detectives have not determined if Lumar is directly responsible for shooting the boy. He said further investigation is pending, but evidence pertaining to the investigation tied Lumar and Taylor to the shooting. He said there is the possibility of more arrests to come in this case.
