LAPLACE - St. John Sheriff’s deputies have detained a second suspect in the investigation into the January 8 armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver, said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
Maj. Mike Tregre, public information officer for SJSO, said officers from the Felony Intercept Division arrested 18-year-old Otis Dee Washington shortly after 12 p.m. Monday at his home in the 2500 block of Virginian Colony Drive. Tregre said Washington was taken without incident, but refused to answer any questions from investigators regarding the robbery.
According to Tregre, detectives received information that Washington conspired with an 11-year-old boy, who was arrested January 17, to carry out the brazen, broad daylight robbery of a driver Domino’s Pizza, who was making a delivery of pizza, buffalo wings and cheese sticks, total value of $35, to Washington’s address. No money was taken, and the driver was not injured in the robbery.
Tregre could not answer any more questions regarding Washington’s involvement, and said the investigation is still ongoing.
Upon his arrest, the 11-year-old confessed his involvement in the robbery to investigators, but did not mention an accomplice. The mother of the boy was present at the time of questioning, and said she thought her son was in school.
Washington was charged with armed robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace, where he awaits a bond hearing.
