NORCO - A Destrehan man drowned Saturday while swimming off the boat launch in the Bonnet Carre Spillway.

According to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, Edgardo Olman, 26, Destrahan, was swimming with a friend around 5 p.m. Saturday when the friend, who's name was not released, noticed Olman's head was no longer above the water.

Olman's friend immediately called the sheriff's office. The marine division arrived on the scene and located Olman within minutes. Olman was pronounced dead on the scene.
