LAPLACE- St. Charles Catholic High School will host its second annual student after-prom party on Saturday, April 14.
Susan Reval, who is helping to plan the party activities, said the purpose of the party is to give students a safe environment to enjoy after prom festivities.

“We began the after-prom party last year when we realized that the students didn't really have anywhere to go to get together and socialize with friends after the dance. They would either be running the streets or they would have to go to individual houses to be with friends,” she said.
Providing a place for the students to get together will also decrease the likelihood that kids will be out driving drunk or get in trouble, according to Reval.
The theme for the St. Charles Catholic Prom will be ‘Pirates' and there will be music and games that represent the theme of the party.
Prizes will be given out whenever a theme-related song is played. The students will stop dancing and drawings will be held for things such as TV's, laptops, microwaves, cameras, mini-fridges, gift cards and more.
“We are trying to give the kids things they can use in the dorms or in their own apartments when they go out on their own,” Reval said.
Businesses are encouraged to donate items to be given away. Both cash and items are welcome. All prizes and donations can be considered as a charitable donation. Gift cards, electronics and anything else businesses can offer is welcome.
Reval said she expects the party to be a huge success. The prom is for both juniors and seniors and currently about 200 students have registered to attend, up from 180 last year.
