ST. ROSE — Glen Smith and Gary Smith Sr., owners of G. Smith Motorsports, presented 150 families of the River Parishes with Thanksgiving Food Baskets.

They began Nov. 14 in Norco at Sacred Heart Church and made their way to St. Joan of Arc Church in LaPlace. From there they went to the St. James Sheriff’s Office in Vacherie. Families who received the baskets were referred by local churches, as well as the Sheriff’s Office.

The recipients were mailed numbered vouchers to exchange for a basket, and each basket contained items to make a complete Thanksgiving meal, along with a gift card to Walmart for $20 to purchase a turkey or additional ingredients.

Volunteers from Sacred Heart went to the G. Smith Motorsports facility and assisted with packing the individual boxes.

“It is so nice to see successful businessmen, such as Glen and Gary Smith, who not only are willing to make the financial contributions to help the less fortunate, but the fact that they were out there personally helping distribute the Thanksgiving baskets says a lot about their true character,” said Cindy McCrossen of St. Joan of Arc Church.
