LAPLACE — The River Parishes Medical Society recently awarded a $1,000 academic college scholarship to an outstanding high school senior in St. John Parish who will pursue a career in a medical field.

The award was presented to Jeffrey Millet, son of Dr. Courtney and Leandre Millet, by Dr. Christy Montegut, scholarship chairman.

Millet was an honors graduate and valedictorian of the 2015 graduating class of St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace.

He plans to attend LSU and major in chemical engineering and then pursue a medical degree and become a physician.

The Medical Society is composed of practicing physicians in the River Parish area of St. Charles, St. John, and St. James.

Similar scholarships are also considered for graduating seniors in St. Charles and St. James Parishes.
