Smith running for District 1 Council seat

LAPLACE — Lester “Coach” Smith has announced his candidacy for St. John the Parish Council District 1 in the Oct. 24 election.

Smith said he has an educated platform suited for the residents of St. John the Baptist Parish.

Smith is a native of Edgard and a resident of LaPlace. He received his high school diploma from Second Ward High School.

He graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Smith is employed with St. John the Baptist School System as a teacher at Fifth Ward Elementary and a coach at West St. John High School.

Smith said he has a proven record of dedication and commitment, as he has been involved in education for 45 years. He is a faithful member and deacon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and is married to Janice Lee Anderson Smith.

“I will be committed and dedicated to the voters of District 1, as well as St. John Parish,” Smith said. “I will be a voice for the people to enhance economic development, recreation and improve drainage.”
