LAPLACE — Video surveillance from Emily C. Watkins Elementary School captured two males who police believe maimed a school pet and stole candy.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at 9:53 a.m. Wednesday to Emily C. Watkins Elementary School in LaPlace following a burglary report.

The initial investigation revealed perpetrators entered the school through an unsecured door. Administrators reported the perpetrators stole a bag of candy and “cut off the tail of a lizard that was in an aquarium,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said.

Recorded video surveillance at the school captured two subjects on school grounds. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the two persons of interest wanted for questioning.

Video surveillance can be seen at the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
