LUTCHER — St. James Parish Hospital officials announced a week of wellness events during September in celebration of men’s health and prostate cancer awareness month.

The hospital will host its inaugural Men’s Health Breakfast Social “Morning Call with Dr. Boyd” at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 23, which will offer a free breakfast, a wellness presentation, free screenings (cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI) and door prize drawings throughout the event.

Dr. Clay Boyd, urologist at St. James Urology Clinic, will be the featured speaker.

With over 30 years of experience, Boyd is an extremely knowledgeable presenter, hospital leaders said.

In addition to the breakfast, St. James Parish Hospital is offering $5 PSA (prostate specific antigen) screenings from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 21-25.

PSA screenings are simple blood tests that do not require fasting. Participants can register in the main hospital lobby. Cash or checks will be accepted.

“When addressing many diseases, it is extremely important to catch issues as early as possible,” St. James Parish Hospital Education Coordinator Carolyn Bossier said.

“We realize that the chance of survival is drastically increased when cancer is detected in its beginning stages; therefore, we work hard to offer both screenings and education to the community.”
