RESERVE — Gunshots rang out across Reserve and LaPlace Saturday night and Sunday morning as an ongoing feud turned violent.

St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said detectives believe the shootings are related and is asking anyone with information concerning them to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359- TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Authorities first responded at 10:20 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of Belle Pointe Boulevard in Reserve after a young man was reported shot.

“Deputies were in the area to disperse a large crowd of people after several fights occurred as people were leaving a party at East St. John Elementary School,” Tregre said in a release.

According to Tregre, the victim sustained a single gunshot wound just above his ankle. He was taken to a New Orleans-area hospital, and no other injuries were reported.

Deputies identified the shooting victim as a 23-year-old Gretna resident.

“The victim told deputies that he was leaving the party, walking on Ory Drive when he heard gunshots and ran,” Tregre said. “As he was running, he was shot. The victim sought safety by climbing on the roof of a nearby house.”

A vehicle parked on the driveway of a residence on Belle Pointe Boulevard was hit with a projectile, authorities said.

The violence continued a few hours later when deputies responded at 6:03 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 2300 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace after the location was riddled with bullets.

“Deputies saw multiple gunshot holes in the walls, ceiling, cabinets and rear door,” Tregre said. “Nine people were in the house. No one was injured.”

Later Sunday morning, deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in a field at the end of South River Pointe Drive, which is near the area of Saturday night’s shooting.

The rear passenger window appeared to have been shattered by a single gunshot.

A computer check of the vehicle, Tregre said, revealed it is registered to the same address as the Yorktowne Drive residence that was shot up Sunday morning.

Residents with information about the shootings that call Crimestoppers do not have to testify in court and may qualify for a cash reward. Residents can also submit tips at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
