St. John the Baptist Parish officials announced the parish is participating in Louisiana’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 7 and 8 by exempting the 5 percent local sales tax in addition to the state’s 4 percent sales tax.

The savings are good on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of tangible personal property for non-business use.

The holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 7 and continues through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 8.

The exemption applies statewide to all consumer purchases of tangible personal property, other than vehicles subject to license and title and meals furnished for consumption on the premises where purchased, including to-go orders, provided that the property is not for use in a business, trade or profession.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, items not eligible for the exemption include purchases of taxable services like  hotel occupancy, amusement, recreational, and athletic admissions, repairs to tangible personal property, laundry, cleaning, pressing, and dyeing services and vehicle parking.
