RESERVE — Local students recently gathered to send more than $3,500 in savings to American service people across the globe.

The exercise was part of South Central Louisiana Technical College, River Parishes Campus’ spring semester Customer Service class.

“The key to good Customer Service is simply, service,” Campus Administrator and Dean Cindy M. Poskey said. “If you truly serve your customer, it is an absolute. But serving goes beyond only the customers of a business. By adding family, co-workers, friends, neighbors and community, your entire being becomes aligned to that oh so treasured great customer service attitude.”

The class recently took on the project of sending manufacturers’ coupons to military families. Commissaries across the country and the world accept the coupons up to six months after expiration dates.

“Military families often struggle with low income to make ends meet,” Poskey said. “The coupons represent a savings on their food and personal needs items that can really make a difference.”

The Business Department takes on the task twice a year, and class members collect, clip, sort and package the coupons that are sent to the military for distribution.

The Spring 2015 class collected $3,572.50.
